A Canadian hip hop artist was the most buzz-worthy musician featured at this year’s Coachella music festival in Indio, California. Drake drew 223 mentions on Twitter in the first two days after the lineup was announced earlier this year.
The data was compiled by CrowdFlower using the #Coachella2015 hashtag. The Toronto native earned 27 more mentions than the second most buzz-worthy festival artist or act: veteran rock band AC/DC.
The annual event, attended by thousands, has evolved into a modern day Woodstock, complete with eccentric fashion and diverse forms of expression. It is a popular stop on celebrity itineraries and an annual pilgrimage for music fans. This year Justin Beiber was reportedly kicked out for unruly behaviour.
Of Drake’s 223 mentions, 126 were positive, 36 were negative, and 52 were neutral in tone. One of his most viral moments came when Madonna made out with him on stage. The star was also spotted arm-in-arm with DJ Tiesto.
This year’s stable of talent includes over 100 musicians from a broad range of genres including rock, hip hop, and electronic. Other artists who drew interest on Twitter included Steely Dan, Azealia Banks, Jack White, and Florence + the Machine.
