Empoyees in the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner took home the highest pay within the Ontario civil service. On average, staff in this department earned $144,002.50 in 2014 according to data released by the provincial government. That’s $10,428.34 more than the rest of Queen’s Park. Ann Cavoukian, former Information and Privacy Commissioner and now the executive director of Ryerson’s Privacy and Big Data Institute, topped the list with $256,401.08 in take-home salary in 2014.

Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk, Legislative Assembly clerk Deborah Deller, Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin, and Commissioner Brian Beamish make up the remainder of the top-5 highest paid employees on the list. Premier Kathleen Wynne was the highest paid elected official with a salary of $208,974. Earning $182,436.12, Bob Chiarelli took home the most for a cabinet minister (Energy) in 2014. In total, 252 employees from Queen’s Park and its affiliated departments made the annual “Sunshine List,” which looks at public service staff who make over $100,000 a year. The Legislative Assembly had the most members on the list with 140.

When looking at the entire public sector, the total number of employees who made over $100,000 in 2014 grows considerably. Executives in Ontario’s electricity, education and health sectors were at the top of the list. Tom Mitchell, CEO of Ontario Power Generation, earned the most at $1.55 million.
